J’Ann Royal Children Centre

OUR HISTORY

J’Ann Royal Children Centre is a not-for-profit educational centre based in the Medie community, in the outskirts of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.

The Centre was founded in January 2012 by Joseph Chardy Lamptey and his wife Sheila Manuela-Ann Lamptey, in response to the increasing numbers of school age children excluded from national schools. Their aim in establishing the Centre was to provide free, educational programs for less privileged children, to offer them the opportunity to access a formal education.

Recognising his community’s need, Joseph, a native of Medie, mobilised and trained local youth as teacher-volunteers. Using his own funds, he rented small premises in Medie and, supported by his social worker wife Ann, launched the J’Ann Royal Children Centre.

Joseph and Ann visited hundreds of homes to educate and convince parents to enrol their children onto the J’Ann Royal program. Thanks to its reputation for high quality education and the high demand from the community in Medie and around, the school expanded rapidly and now counts over 400 pupils.
